We Matter: A Manifesto

Today is a day I will forever remember.
Today is the day I will allow myself to be human.
I am not a saint nor am I destined to be the world’s savior.

I am a mother.
A mother who, like all of us, roars through her day fighting for her children and their rights and happiness, all while ignoring her own basic needs.

From now on I will nourish my soul.
I will respect my body.
I will love myself.

If I neglect to take care of myself, how can I take care of my children?
Who will take care of my children?

I, and my family, deserve better. By caring for myself I am teaching them self respect. I am teaching them that while they are always going to be cared for by me, under any and all circumstances, I matter.

We all matter.
